Watch real user sessions to understand behavior and find UX issues

What Are Session Recordings?

Session recordings are video-like replays of individual user sessions on your website. Watch exactly what users see, where they click, how they scroll, and where they get stuck.

Session recordings help you:

  • Understand the "why" behind your analytics data
  • Find UX issues and bugs you didn't know existed
  • See how real users navigate your conversion funnels
  • Get qualitative insights to complement quantitative data

Watching Recordings

  1. Go to Recordings in the sidebar
  2. Browse the list of recorded sessions
  3. Use filters to find specific sessions (by page, duration, device, etc.)
  4. Click a session to open the player
  5. Use playback controls to play, pause, skip, and adjust speed

Pro tip: Use 2x or 4x speed for long sessions, and slow down when you spot interesting behavior.

Finding Useful Sessions

Not all recordings are equally valuable. Use filters to find sessions worth watching:

  • Duration: Filter out very short (<10 sec) bounce sessions
  • Pages visited: Find users who reached key pages like checkout
  • Rage clicks: Sessions where users clicked repeatedly in frustration
  • Errors: Sessions with JavaScript errors
  • Device: Focus on mobile or desktop users specifically
  • Converted: Compare sessions that converted vs. those that didn't

What to Look For

Confusion signals

Users moving mouse aimlessly, clicking non-clickable elements, scrolling up and down repeatedly

Frustration signals

Rage clicks, rapid scrolling, form field re-entries, backtracking

Drop-off points

Where users leave your site, especially in checkout or signup flows

Unexpected behavior

Users taking paths you didn't anticipate, skipping content you thought was important

Privacy & Data Protection

EarlyCRO takes privacy seriously. By default, we protect sensitive information:

  • Automatic masking: Text inputs, passwords, and credit card fields are masked by default
  • Custom masking: Add data attributes to mask additional elements
  • No keylogging: We don't record actual keystrokes, just that typing occurred
<!-- Mask specific elements -->
<div data-cro-mask>This content will be hidden</div>

<!-- Exclude from recording entirely -->
<div data-cro-ignore>This won't be recorded</div>
